Community Opportunities, Inc. provides community-based services to individuals with mental health disabilities, brain injuries, mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. Based in Somerset, Kentucky, supports are available to persons in the Supports for Community Living, Michelle P, Acquired Brain Injury, ABI Long-Term Care Medicaid waivers. In addition, Community Opportunities also provides contracted services to adolescents with mental retardation and developmental disabilities through the Department of Community Based Services.
In 2002, two partners created New Beginnings, LLC which would later become Community Opportunities. The agency began providing Supports for Community Living (SCL) Medicaid Waiver services the same year, with the primary focus being Behavior Support Services for adults with mental retardation/developmental disabilities (MR/DD). In 2003, the partners decided to expand to provide all services under the SCL Waiver, with the acceptance of the first client that year. Although the agency continued to grow, the need for reorganization became evident for the partners of New Beginnings.
In the summer of 2004, the partners decided to dissolve the partnership and branch out into two separate agencies. As a result, New Beginnings ceased to exist. At this point, Community Opportunities, Inc. was formed with Executive Director Janice Clark at the helm.
Since its foundation with four clients in December 2004, Community Opportunities has continued to grow, improve, and expand the quality of services being offered. The agency now provides a wide array of supports to various populations, including clients in the SCL waiver and adolescents and young adults in need of MR/DD services from the Department of Community Based Services.
